The group show Bound for Tinos II picks up where its first edition left off in the summer of 2013 at the Cultural Foundation of Tinos. It is part of a series of exhibits that explore the island's cultural and intellectual heritage. This year's edition features fifteen contemporary artists either of Tinian origin or somehow bound to Tinos through connections they have themselves forged, the emotional pull of the island and the bond they share being the reason for their coming together.
Many of the works in the exhibition point up the dynamic of familiar objects and breathe an air of simplicity. A key theme is the effort–in fact, the need–to look at things, events, and places from new angles, as if in an unexpected encounter. At the same time the exhibit examines the notion of cohabitation, the sharing of a common space.
Interestingly enough, Bound for Tinos II acts as a platform for a kind of dialogue that stretches through time and space: not only does it bring together established and emerging artists, but is also itself a response to its previous edition.
